First off, I always have been and always will be a huge fan of Bloodsport. I make my wife watch it everytime it comes on TBS, and I own the movie, which sits on my shelf right next to the Star Wars Trilogy.

Now, while I love Bloodsport, I don't necessarily buy into the "true story" that the box says it's based on. And that's my opinion, and everyone is entitled to their own. However, since the claim is made that the movie is based on true events, and the movie is a published article, the claim should be backed with evidence of "how" the movie is based on real events. How loosely should the movie be regarded? From what Mr. Dux is saying, the movie doesn't appear to take that many liberties from the truth.

I look at it like this: I'm a Star Wars nut. I love everything about the movie, but I understand that it's a work of fiction. Now, if the trilogy made the claim that the movies were based on real events, then I would want to see and hear George Lucas and Mark Hammil show how they are able to use the force. If that's not the "true events" that the movie is supposed to be based on, then I would want to know what those "true events" were. There's nothing wrong with wanting to know, and if you're going to claim that you are able to levitate a droid while being tied to a large stick, then I'm going to want to see that junk happen.

I don't think Mr. Dux has supplied sufficient evidence to support the claims that he has made. I understand that at that time, there was no easy access to recording devices like hand-held cameras, and there was definately no internet for public use at that time. However, why have we never heard from the 56 opponents that were said to have been knocked out after nearly 30 years have passed? I would think...again, this is my opinion...that if I were to have faced Mr. Dux in the Kumite and I was defeated by him, and now his name has become rather famous for the claims that he's making, that I would at least say "Man, that guy was pretty good. I actually took on the guy that Jean Claude Van Damme portrayed in a movie, and I was a part of all that." But again, that's just me.

Not only that, but for someone who claims to be honorable and humble, Mr. Dux seems to be anything but. There is nothing wrong with being proud of your accomplishments, but to brag about them is not a show of humility. At least not where I come from. It seems that Mr. Dux does his fair share of bragging, but then turns around and states that he's humble in the same sentence.

It would seem that Mr. Dux is proud of his record, and rightfully so, but the question that raises is this: If this tournement was supposed to be a big secret, and now he's told the world about it, why on earth would the CIA want him? It's rather obvious that Mr. Dux is unable to keep a secret in a big way.

Those are just a few of my thoughts, take them or leave them. Either way, it still makes one awesome movie.

Dear Dale

Thank you for your encouraging words. Lincoln was was a self taught lawyer and this is attributable to him becoming perhaps our greatest President.

True martial arts in its purest form is the study and putting into practice universal truth, which no one has an exclusive on or is made more legitimate because it was spun fed to them in place of learned through trial and error and personal insight. Hands on experience is purer than doctrine. A fact lost on those use experience is a fine example of mediocrity, at its best.

Myamoto Musashi, Japan's greatest duelist, whose work the Go Rin No Sho, "A Book of Five Rings" is in actuality equating martial art movement with the way we live and conduct our lives with predictable results. He too, is self taught.

Keep up the good work by not letting the fodder of mediocrity fill you with self doubt or make you grow complacent.

I was watching The Kiss of Death--and wondered what happened to her.I assumed she must have made some very bad movie choices--and things dried up. She seemd to either not receive first rate starring opportunities, or made poor decisions--regarding her roles. She was good in that flick where she was the young runaway underground assassin chick--with Harvey Kietel trying to kill her--very good job. She should have accomplished more--

got cut off there. one more point before I retire to that dreamless unexplained state that Dutch went into upon getting picked up by the aforementioned "CHOPPAH"....

Billy. Though we all rooted for him, his impact on the predator was laughable. As my brother and I enjoy recalling, the predator likely was not even slowed a single stride as he dispatched Billy. That was the worst and most meaningless death for me in the movie. They even spared Dillon's character a shameful death that he truly deserved.

Anyways, thanks for the laughs.

you have been robbed my friend. by whom? robbed of the Pulitzer prize you deserve for this amazing write up, and robbed of the accolade you deserve evidenced by my response coming in 12 weeks after you wrote this being in the number one spot! I am blushing with shame and outrage. OK, enough of this. I have some points. I must warn you, I am going to talk about these people as if they are not actually actors, but real people, just to keep it easy to follow, and it is way more fun/gay that way.

I could not agree more about your points regarding the crew. Dutch (please, call him Dutch. Schaeffer was hardly used in this film, though your use of his surname keeps your personal bias towards the film at a respectable level, good job there, I am sure if he ever recovered emotionally from the predator encounter, he would have insisted that you use Dutch) was the driving force with his consistent every 45 second chant of "GET TO DA CHOPPAH!!", "LET'S GOOHH!!", "COME OHNNN!!", etc. Also a critical point that I must attribute to my brother as always pointing out, is the scene where Dutch totally busts Maria for actually knowing English. He was like some kind of linguist Jedi mind reader out there. Watch for that, it is hilarious. "Enough of dis Burlsheet already, wat did YOU SEE?!" - pure awesomeness..

Another point I would like for you to remember is that Mac was dispatched to the drop point wearing a sharkskin suit and tie. He pulls that look in Commando too, interestingly enough. It seems Bill Duke has a taste for the cloth. Could his wearing a totally inappropriate ensemble enraged the Predator enough to doom his crew? I guess we will never know.

Hey, my brother lives in Columbus, MS which is about 150 miles south of Olive Branch. Very pretty area!

You'll be about 30-45 minutes away from Memphis, TN and Beale St. is certainly worth a visit if you're into live music!
